Archaeology of Pull Tabs

Aarhus Report

Pull Tab Archaeology visited the Contemporary and Historical Archaeology in Theory conference in Aarhus this year. And we had great fun!

We were allowed to put up our banner near the conference room, Anna Agbe-Davies introduced the idea of plastic pull tabs (see picture), we found ‘Pride Pull Tabs’ with Sefryn, Angela and Gabriel at the Kvindemuseet Women’s Museum after a great introduction by July Rokkjaer Birch. Loads of people -like Dwayne Beckers , Attila Dezsi and Laura McAtackney – approached me with pull tabs they had collected earlier, or during the conference in down-town Aarhus. Archaeologist Hilary Orange gave a bag full (#26) of ring pulls from Bochum, and yes, there are two new types! Another S-IV type in the family, which will now be seven species in total! Thanks Hilary. On our way back Marjolijn and I found fake pull tabs at Billund Airport and in the excitement lost our laptop, but Maiken from customer service will now kindly return to us by mail. (What a service!) Finally, the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines air hostes showed an alternative usage of pull tabs in the plane back to Amsterdam.
